La Manga Club is an ideal destination for anyone looking for the very best in watersports holidays, since it is nestled conveniently between two seas; the Balearic to the east and the Mar Menor to the west. Naturally the Club caters very well for those guests who want to try their hand at watersports for the first time, or who want to improve existing skills.
The Mar Menor is actually a very large saltwater lagoon; calm, warm and protected from bad weather. It is also shallow, reaching less than seven meters at its deepest point. These factors make it an ideal location for all types of watersports activities including sailing, snorkelling and diving.
Snorkelling safaris are a fun and exciting way to experience this watersport. Available to guests of all ages (under 6’s to be accompanied by an adult) snorkelling is a calm yet invigorating experience. There are many different sheltered bays around the resort to explore, where you can find dozens of breeds of tropical fish as well as other sea life such as star fish, coral and sea cucumbers. All equipment is provided so you can just turn up and have fun.
If you want to explore beneath the waves and bear witness to some of the world’s most beautiful underwater sights, try scuba diving at The Islas Hormigas (a varied and superbly preserved marine reserve), one of the finest dive sites in the Mediterranean.
Las Lomas is home to the Adventure Divers Scuba Centre, where you can learn to scuba dive or strive for a higher PADI qualification if you are already a seasoned diver.
At Cabo de Palos there are some amazing dives to be enjoyed. You can spot tropical fish including moray eels, barracudas and tuna, plus other sea creatures like octopi, squid and cuttlefish on a boat dive, shore dive or wreck dive.
There are at least ten different dive sites to explore within a short distance; reach your chosen site by boat or minibus. There are courses available through Adventure Divers at La Manga Club, for complete beginners, children (age 8+) and experienced divers. Use your holiday to gain your PADI certificate or build up to a Dive Master qualification.
There are also specialty dives available, including deep diver, digital underwater photography, enriched air diver, AWARE fish ID, search and recovery diver and night diver courses.
Adventure Divers from La Manga Club Resort use the DPV (underwater diver propulsion vehicle also known as an underwater scooter) on the carbonero wreck at La Manga which was torpedoed in WW2 by a patrolling german U boat.
You can choose whether to hire a motorboat, row boat or sailing boat and you can book your craft with or without a skipper. La Manga caters for everybody, providing a wide range of watersports facilities and options for guests of all levels of confidence and sailing ability. If you want to learn to sail or to improve your technique, there are international-standard sailing schools offering tuition for adults and children of all levels on sailing boats as well as windsurfers, catamarans and kayaks.
At Adventure Divers & Activity Center, which is located on the Mar Menor very close to La Manga Resort, you can sign up for all types of watersport activities including dinghy sailing, kayaking or windsurfing around the shallow, clear, warm waters of the lagoon. Private lessons are available with dedicated instructors, who can also teach you SUP (Stand Up Paddle), a new sport that builds strength and muscle tone whilst having fun.
There are also scheduled boat trips to visit the islands, which make for a very pleasurable and relaxing way to spend a day at sea. Or take part in a kayak safari or power boat trip, both of which are a wonderful way to see the sights.
