€3.9m road upgrade to benefit La Manga walkers and cyclists

Road cyclingA new cycle lane and a pedestrian pathway are set to bring leisure and safety benefits for walkers and cyclists at the luxury La Manga Club, in Spain.

The cycle lane and pedestrian walkway update is part of a €3.9million package of improvements along a 4 kilometre stretch of the RM314 that passes the exclusive sports, holiday, and leisure resort en route from Los Belones to Atamaria.

The work, which has been approved by the mayors of nearby Cartagena and La Union, is due to start later in the summer.

As well as creating the cycle path and walkway, the proposals include adding two new illuminated roundabouts to improve access to the five-star La Manga Club, which attracts increasing numbers of sportspeople and guests who use its top-class sports and spa facilities to improve and enjoy their golf, tennis, cricket, football, rugby and more.

Guests can stay at the five-star Principe Filipe hotel or in top-class villas and apartments in the four-star Las Lomas Village, and enjoy the range of choice restaurants that serve a sumptuous selection of Spanish, Italian, Indian, American and Asian food.

The plans also include widening of the existing road, which is believed to be used by more than 4,000 vehicles each day, plus associate drainage and resurfacing works, some of which have already been started.
