Cricket fans will be bowled over to discover that the luxury La Manga Club in Murcia, Spain, has a thriving cricket club and the new season is now underway.
The impressive club has two teams that include experienced and youth players who take part in weekend games and friendly weekday matches. Both La Manga’s first and second teams are sponsored by Prestige Real Estate.
A spokesperson for La Manga cricket club says:
With renewed enthusiasm and commitment by our members, we look forward to an exciting season.
Thanks to its excellent facilities, the top-quality ground hosts many accomplished sides. In February, the Spanish team took on players from the Tom Maynard Trust Academy, which was established to support young cricketers from the professional England and Wales county circuit, after Tom’s tragic death in 2013, while, at the start of the year, the English Women’s Academy made full use of the excellent facilities.
Essex county youth cricketers from the UK’s Graham Gooch Academy have also been put through their paces during half term to hone their bowling, fielding and fitness skills. “Having used La Manga with the professional staff in the past we see this venue as high quality for the development of our most talented Essex young players of the future,” say officials.
With Spain’s wonderful weather, the cricket season lasts from April right through to November and places are available for pre-season training and tournament play. Special arrangements can also be made for parties of colts and juniors to take part in special training sessions from qualified England and Wales Cricket Board coaches.
